Training
The club trains throughout the year on our home track based at Rutland Sports Park, Ilkeston with our volunteers working hard to ensure sessions are able to be held all year round, albeit with a short break for Christmas. During the summer (April - September) the club trains outdoors on the athletics track, however, during the winter (October - March) the club trains in the tennis centre.
There is a small training fee of £5 to be paid per session for both members and non-members alike, although membership of the club is strongly encouraged in order to compete and take part in the full range of club activities.
Newcomers to the club (see induction) should initially attend one of our Wednesday or Saturday sessions for an introduction to the club.
Recreation & Transition Group
Athletes aged 8 to 12 will be coached in the basics of running, jumping, throwing, agility, fitness and coordination through a broad programme of activities led by a dedicated group of qualified coaches. These sessions are designed to give younger athletes the necessary skills and confidence required to progress in the sport and hopefully compete on behalf of the club.

Foundation Group
Athletes aged 12+ will be led through the technical, fitness and coordination essentials of the sport, rotating around the various events the club caters for (e.g. sprints, long jump, shot put, middle distance, etc.) in small training groups led by our most experienced coaches. These sessions are designed to support athletes build on the skills they have developed during their early years in the sport, introducing higher level technical aspect of events.
The club firmly believes that it is beneficial to develop all-round athletic ability and potential, and therefore event specialisation is discouraged until an athlete is a little older.
